Top 50 drivers ranked in KACSPORTS exclusive 2007 Fantasy NASCAR Preview. BASEBALL OFFICIALLY HERE - GUILLEN HAS OUTBURST: Former White Sox prospect Brendan McCarthy told reporters how much more positive things were in the Texas Rangers clubhouse as opposed to with the White Sox. That's all it took for Ozzie Guillen to go absolutely nuts on a Chicago radio show, basically saying Brendan should look in the mirror, starting with 'I really hate him' before saying 'You played with us 162 games and all of a sudden you leave and say you don't have a friend in the clubhouse? Only Brian Anderson? Well, he picked the wrong guy to be friends with. People forgot that Brandon McCarthy got caught a couple of times out at night. I called him into my office and said, 'You been hanging around the city a lot, huh?' I said, 'I don't have a spy on you, but I know a lot of people in the bars in Chicago. I've been here for 20 years, and they will tell me everything. He forgot he lost a couple of games for us. He lost at least five of the 72. We might be in the playoffs without him.' BIG PUSSY MCGRADY??? T-MAC HAS WORRIED ABOUT SECURITY BEFORE: Tracy McGrady voiced concern about the $1.5 billion spent on security at the Athens Olympics not being enough. Now T-Mac is calling the NBA to cancel the New Orleans All-Star game. Don't worry T-Mac, the back will take you out of the game before you ever get to the Big Easy - he's probably popping percacets like freaking juju's as I speak. WHAT'S THE MATTA??? GUM INCIDENT BECOMES YOUTUBE CLASSIC!!! Here's something that can't get censored off the internet - Thad might have to take an NBA job to get than king of immunity. In case you missed it, Ohio State coach Thad Matta had the gum fly out of his mouth during a timeout last Sunday, and was seen quickly picking the wad up and putting it back in his mouth. By the time Sunday evening had rolled around, eight of his 12 players had text messaged him asking just exactly what was up with that - along with about a million talk shows the following day. I guess you could use the old Sean Salisbury analysis for how Ohio State rallied in the final minutes against Wisconsin, they punched, they clawed, they bit, and they CHEWED...TOP NFL FREE AGENTS SNAPPED UP VERY QUICKLY: It's kind of like trying to nab the hottest actresses in Hollywood, or the hottest women on the Canadian women's hockey team - you better act fast, and you better have something to offer. So leave it to the team whose very uniforms look like the damn Super Bowl trophy itself to snatch up DE/LB Adalius Thomas in about 15 minutes flat. Adalius will get $17.5 million guaranteed for his efforts. Incidentally, Thomas goes down as the second-best sixth round selection of the 2000 Draft. Adalius went 13 picks ahead of a quarterback who wound up doing pretty well for himself, I think his name is Brady or something. Thomas also has the distinction of making the Pro Bowl as a special teams as well as a regular defensive selection And don't expect the Patriots do be done by any means as they are very much in the wide receiver (possibly Randy Moss) market as well. NINERS GET CLEMENTS FOR 8 YEARS/$80 MILLION: The second most significant signing of the day is a bit more questionable, as Nate Clements signs a deal with the 49ers that could make him the highest-paid defensive player in leauge history. It's said $22 millon of that contract is guaranteed. BUSY WEEKEND IN DENVER: Willis McGahee, Ahman Green, Brad Johnson among those set to visit. This comes a day after trading RB Tatum Bell and OT George Foster to Detroit for shutdown corner Dre Bly.MASTERS TO ADD INTERNET COVERAGE: In addition to showing all golfers in Amen Corner (holes 11 through 13), there will be a one hour internet broadcast for all four rounds of the tournament before USA or CBS's telecast begins. PLUMMER SEZS HE'S RETIRING: You may recall an article I had on this being a serious possibility last week. Now the NFL Network is reporting that Jake Plummer has decided to retire rather than accept a trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Earlier it had been reported that the Broncos agreed to terms on a trade that would had dealt Plummer in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. That trade is now expected to be nullified due to Plummer's decision to retire. PLUMMER A 'REBEL SOUL': Opinions on the engimatc QB vary greatly, but was 39-15 (.722) as starting quarterback. By comparison John Elway was 148-82-1 (.643). Sounds good but there are other categories such as Super Bowl appearances (4 for Elway) and Super Bowl wins (2 for #7)ANOTHER NAME IN STEROID WEB RING: Investigation links HGH being sent to Jerry Hairston Jr. - the document reviewed reveals the birthdate to match that of the Jerry Hairston Jr. who spent nine years with the Orioles, Cubs, and Rangers (notice the Orioles and Rangers being involved in a lot of this). Hairston is said to be 'baffled' and 'dissapointed by the inquiry. WHY YOU NEVER TAKE JOHN DALY IN FANTASY GOLF: John had parred the first two holes in the Honda classic and was on the 12th tee when a photographer's shutter causes Daly to stop his swing. Daly drops his club and leaves the tee box straight for the care center, officials said Daly managed to injure his rib area along with his shoulder. HENRY THE SECOND... Chris Henry (no, not that Chris Henry) blows scouts away at NFL Combine. VITALE RECALLS '77 GAME AT MARQUETTE WELL: The date was February 16, 1977, and riding a 20-game winning streak, Dick Vitale brought his 15th ranked Detroit Titans into Milwaukee to play Marquette and retiring coach Al McGuire. Detroit turned the tables on a last-second loss the year before, as Dennis Boyd (not the Oil Can) hit a 21-foot jumper at the buzzer to give UDM a 64-63 victory which at the time seemed destined to knock Marquette right out of what was then only a 32-team field for the NCAA Tournament. In the end Marquette did get an at-large bid before making an unlikely run to the only NCAA title in school history. Meanwhile Detroit made the Sweet 16, where they lost to Michigan, who in turn lost to Cinderella UNC-Charlotte in the Elite 8. Charlotte would then lose a last-second heartbreaker to Marquette (pictured) in the National Semifinal.USU SCORING MACHINE REMEMBERED: Wayne Estes with his trademark skyhook (pre-dating Kareem) was one of college basketball's most prolific all-time scorers. On February 8, 1965, Estes had just scored 48 points to go over the 2,000 points in his career - and many thought he was destined for NBA greatness. After the game Estes and two friends checked out the scene of a car accident when the 6'10" Estes came in contact with a low-hanging wire, instantly electrocuting him. Among the mourners was good friend Judy Morstein, an Olympic speedskater who would eventually become governor of Montana. Estes still ranks #2 on Utah State's all-time scoring list, and averaged 33.7 points/13.7 rebounds in his tragically abbreviated senior season. Great story which also contains some great video. 2006 NFL BLOTTER RECAP: Pacman, Henry, Pacman, Henry, Pacman, Henry - I have to ask again, how many years did those two take off Rich Rodriguez's life??? Throw in a couple Tanks along with dozens of other incidents you may have forgotten about... ![]() TODAY'S LOOK-A-LIKES...Is it possible the Mafia exists in Central Wisconsin??? If a movie were to be made about the life of Wisconsin basketball coach Bo Ryan (left), Paulie Walnuts (Tony Sirico - right, in more ways than one) should definitely be contacted first. In fact look for Wisconsin to deliver some serious revenge for Michigan St. this coming weekend - in fact I can hear Paulie (Bo) to Sparty now, 'Stay away from Madison, and don't even try to get in Marsh Shapiro's - not even on Sundays' Next thing we know Sparty is on the bottom of Lake Mendota. Considering what's gone on in the last week I think Chris Montisanti should be added to the coaching staff to help fire up the troops. And then we can have Barry Alvarez, I mean Tony Soprano be the athletic director - we can even have a scene where A.J. (Barry Jr.) microwaves a parrot in his dorm room and Meadow squeals on him. REUTIMANN STILL SMARTING FROM VICIOUS CRASH: You may have caught the scene when the driver of the #00 Domino's Camry took one of the hardest hits in recent NASCAR history when he went into the wall during the closing laps at California Speedway. FOX quickly went away from a shot of the rookie driver slumped over his steering wheel after the crash, but it turned out to be nothing more but having the wind completely knocked out and eventually being sore all over. BASEBALL'S RICHEST PLAYER??? Barry Bonds??? Arod??? Jeter??? What if I told you it could be someone by the name of Matt White, a 29-year old who's trying to make the Dodgers pitching staff. So is he Koufax, Drysdale, and Hershiser wrapped up into one - or has the L.A. front office really lost it's mind this time??? Actually none of the above, White bought some land for $50,000 in Massachusetts a few years back. It turns out that about 24 million pounds of 400-million year old stone was discovered under the property. So??? The stone goes for about $100 per ton, do the math and that means well over $2 billion worth of material used for sidewalks, patios and the like lies under the ground. White warns there are questions involving the cost of removing the stone it is also said that White could still make a tremendous profit re-selling the parcel. But this might not be White's only profit from the discovery, White has received inquiries about making national television appearances, and has even been contacted about a possible movie. You might want to check into buying something out there. YET ANOTHER CHARGE RAINS ON PACMAN: With all eyes still on Las Vegas, a new charge about a previously unreported incident has surfaced in Georgia. Pacman is scheduled to appear in a Superior Court later this month on charges of obstructing police during an incident last February, according to a Fayetteville police chief. And that's not all, it is now also confirmed that Jones was arrested and charged with marijuana possession a month later in the same county, but those charges were dismissed. If you're scoring at home, Jones has now been involved in at LEAST 10 off-the-field incidents since being the seventh pick of the 2005 Draft just 22 months ago. PUBLICIST SAYS PACMAN A VICTIM: In the first statement out of the Pacman camp, publicist says Jones was robbed and beaten without provocation during the strip club brawl, adding that bouncers maced Jones' bodyguard, bodyslammed his stylist into a cactus before choking Pacman himself.VITALE FALLS VICTIM TO BAD CELL CONNECTION: Was in a restaurant with an acquaintance and was talking about the Florida Gators while he waited to be interviewed on a Knoxville radio show. Not knowing that he'd just been put on the air, the hosts hear Vitale telling the acquaintance about a conversation he had with coach Billy Donovan, who supposedly told him that scouts were making a mistake thinking that Joakim Noah is a better NBA prospect than Al Horford. Being told shortly after that the comments were heard on-air, Dick angrily calls the station back claiming that he had a bad cell connection and didn't know he was on air, and that they should had been professional about it and that he was only kidding and joking with the acquaintance, who he said was a big Noah fan. Some advice Dick, drop the Cingular contract... CELTICS COMMENTATOR LATEST IN HOT WATER: Cedric Maxwell tells official Violet Palmer to 'go back in the kitchen' after making a foul call. My question is what's the point Ced, your team has lost 22 out of 24 - I don't think you can blame too many of them on the officiating. And I'm guessing by being the worst team in the association, you earn the right for Violet Palmer to work your games. Cornbread should just be glad the league got rid of Dee Kanter. 2-22, well at least that's two more wins than a WNBA team would have got. SOCCER COACH DOTTED WITH 2-LITRE BOTTLE: Sevilia's quarter-final tournament match was abandoned after their coach suffers the same fate as a San Diego Chargers trainer in Giants Stadium, being knocked cold by a two-litre bottle filled with 'liquid and ice'. The coach stumbled before falling to the ground, and was said to be out for ten minutes. Making things even better, an ambulance that was summoned onto the field was also pelted by fans. That resulted in riot police ordering the stadium cleared. The incident occurred shortly after Sevilia scored in the 59th minute.AT LEAST HE GETS PAID: In case you missed it, Clippers point guard Shaun Livingston joined the short list of athletes (Tyrone Prothro, Moises Alou, Joe Theismann) to suffer a horrific leg injury as his knee totally gives up while making an uncontested layup. But if 'purists' had their way, Shaun would have suffered the injury playing in the ACC - as Livingston turned down a Duke scholarship and became the #4 overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. Although the injury-prone Livingston is quickly becoming a rip-off for the Clippers, at least Shaun is making a nice paycheck getting hurt, as opposed to getting hurt in college and ruining his draft chances. According to his agent, Shaun has invested wisely and would be in good shape financially even if he never plays again. AUDIO: You can see the injury on the Youtube link above, now HEAR the injury - which may be even more graphic. RECORDINGS LINK PACMAN TO DRUG DEALER: Last April, Nashville police seized nearly 2,000 pounds of marijuana and cocaine, busting one of the largest local drug rings in the area. Now documents and wiretapped phone conversations show that Adam 'Pacman' Jones may have been very close to the investigation. The conversations are between Pacman and Darryl Moore, the target of the investigation. Police said that Moore was a convicted felon and an alleged drug kingpin. The phone calls revealed the two as friends who partied together for several nights. Moore was said to be staying at Pacman's home and evidence showed he may have made drug deals from there. One conversation had Moore referencing about a 'cutie pie', slang for 9 ounces of cocaine. The word 'dro' (marijuana) was used in another discussion. The conversations also revealed Moore's concern that Pacman's drug habits were puting his career in jeopardy.ERIN ANDREWS V. ANDREA KREMER: Bonnie Bernstein v. Michelle Tafoya, Linda Cohn v. Melissa Stark, Kit Hoover v. Stacey Dales. Do I have your attention yet??? And THAT'S IS ONLY ROUND ONE!!!. Check out the entire 'Would you do...' bracket here... AND MY BLOG WITH MY BRACKET PROJECTION...JOE GIARDI HELPED RIVAL??? His firing now starting to make sense, Florida Marlins officials were unhappy to hear that their manager last year, Joe Girardi, gave Phillies pitcher Jon Lieber helpful tips after being roughed up by the Marlins. Both teams contended for the NL wild-card berth, and Lieber beat the Marlins twice in September. PEYTON MANNING FINALLY SEES UT BEAT GATORS: In response to Bruce Pearl going topless at a woman's game last month, Pat Summitt dons cheerleader outfit, mens team beats slumping Florida. FOOTBALL DEATH UPDATE: Indoor football player died from a broken neck. BOISE STATE HEADED FOR THE BIG SCREEN: Boise State University to announce it has sold the rights for at least one film to be produced about its 2006 football season. The school is expected to a deal for both a documentary and a major-studio film. The school had been contacted by five production entities on both coasts following its 43-42 victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. At least one book is said to be in the works as well.'SHADOWS' AFTERWORD DETAILS BONDS 'GROWTH SPURT': Book says that in 12 years he's been with for the Giants, Barry Bonds has gone from a size 42 to size 52 jersey, and his cleat size has gone from 10 1/2 to 13. The new chapter adds that the changes in his foot and head size 'were of special interest'. |
