DRUDGE STORY - TIGER PISSED OVER TOPLESS PHOTOS OF 'WIFE': Tiger Woods has reacted with sheer fury after a magazine printed topless photos of a woman which it wrongly claimed it was Elin Nordegren. Woods and the United States team are said to be appalled by the article, which portrays the players' wives and girlfriends as cheap on the eve of the Ryder Cup. The article goes on to say 'Most American golfers are married to women who cannot keep their clothes on in public. Is it too much to ask that they leave them at home for the Ryder Cup??? Phil Mickelson going without Amy for two minutes - no way.PAC-10 REPLAY OFFICIAL RECEIVES THREATS... And you think you are having a bad day at the office. The instant replay official whose failure to overturn a bad call led to Oregon's comeback win over Oklahoma Saturday says he feels like he is under siege after receiving menacing phone calls and a death threat on himself and his family. Gordon Riese says he will make a decision soon about whether to finish the season, or even whether to return next year. A Pac-10 official for 28 years, Riese in part blames the equipment for not being able to make the proper call, noting that it is not as 'sophisticated' as what is used in the NFL. A haggard looking Riese says he hasn't been able to eat or drink since making the fateful call, and also says his blood-pressure has 'skyrocketed'. Riese's on-field officiating career ended a couple years back after being run over during the Fiesta Bowl. Riese suffered another injury earlier in his career when his knee was torn up after being hit be a defensive back during a game at Autzen Stadium. RCR, NASCAR ANGRILY DENY CHEATING ALLEGATIONS: Richard Childress dismisses as 'sheer fantasy' a television report that said race winner Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton had a performance advantage at New Hampshire International Speedway. A TV report Sunday night said NASCAR inspectors had discovered that RCR teams manipulated the rims on their Chevrolets to act as 'bleeder valves' that slowly released air pressure in tires after the race. The practice is not technically illegal, but falls into the dreaded 'gray area' of the rulebook that teams are supposed to respect. The report left rival teams grumbling that Harvick may have cheated to win the first race in the Chase for the Championship and take the points lead for the first time in his career. Childress branded the report as 'false and misleading' while NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter called the story 'sensationalism journalism'. OU PRESIDENT WANTS OREGON LOSS 'ERASED': University of Oklahoma president sends letter to Big XII Commissioner, asking him to push for the Sooners' game against Oregon to be eliminated from the record books and having the Pac-10 officials involved in the game suspended for the remainder of the season. Two plays were reviewed on Oregon's game-winning drive — an onside kick that gave the Ducks possession (a call which even Oregon grad Dan Fouts said was wrong on TV) and a pass interference call one play before the touchdown that gave Oregon a 34-33 victory. In the letter OU's president said 'To describe the lapses in accurate officiating at the Oklahoma-Oregon football game last Saturday as constituting an outrageous injustice is an understatement.' UPDATE - ONE GAME SUSPENSION: That sound you just heard was the Pac-10 slapping the officiating crew on the wrists. In a statement, the conference says 'Errors clearly were made and not corrected, and for that we apologize to the University of Oklahoma, coach Bob Stoops and his players. They played an outstanding college football game, as did Oregon, and it is regrettable that the outcome of the contest was affected by the officiating.' I think I do recognize that ref from the XFL a few years back... CLARETT ACCEPTS PLEA BARGAIN... Deal calls for a 7 1/2-year sentence with release possible after 3 1/2 years and would settle two criminal cases against him. The 22-year-old player also agreed to serve five years of probation after the prison sentence. FAMOUS JOCKS BEHIND BARS: Of the 12 listed, the list includes one former Ohio State gridder who managed to blow it worse than Clarett - can you guess who he is??? (JUST DON'T MAKE A WAGER ON IT) TOP PREP TEAM BENCHES QB: Briscoe High School coach Don Shula announces that Matt Leinart will start over Michael Vick in next Friday nights game. Briscoe maintained it's #1 national ranking thanks to a narrow last-second victory this weekend. Although Vick rushed for 187 yards on the ground, he was just 4-15 passing with two interceptions, and also is said to not be seeing eye-to-eye with offensive coordinator Urban Meyer and mascot Lee Corso. Briscoe won the game thanks to a trickeration play featuring a touchdown pass by tailback LaDainian Tomlinson. The school's football program is under a tremendous ammount of scrutiny, with some observers saying that several of it's players actually graduated from high school years ago and now actually play in the National Football League, they moonlight at the high school to receive endorsement money from a shoe manufacturer. It's also being reported that Leinart has been dating some of the school's cheerleaders.FIVE DUQUESNE HOOPS PLAYERS SHOT, TWO CRITICAL... Five Duquesne basketball players, all but one of them new players who enrolled only this month, were shot early Sunday during an apparent act of random violence on campus. Two players were in critical condition, and the condition of a third hospitalized player was not immediately available. Police were searching for a man possible suspect, and were investigating whether anyone else was involved. The shootings occurred about 2:15 a.m. as several players were returning from a campus party. The players most badly injured were 6-foot-7 Canadian forward Sam Ashaolu, a cousin of former Houston Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon, and Stuard Baldonado, a 6-7 transfer from Miami Dade College who was considered the teams best recruit. Also hospitalized is Kojo Mensah, a guard from Brooklyn who averaged nearly 17 points last season at Siena before transferring. PROFILES OF WOUNDED PLAYERS STEVE FOLEY, DAY 15... While his team rolls to a second consecutive victory to open the NFL season, information continues to surface regarding Foley's confrontation with officer Aaron Mansker - with Foley reportedly shouting 'You're trying to end my career man' after Mansker fired the first shot into the linebackers knee. Foley is said to have continued to approach the off-duty Coronado officer. According to the report, The officer shot at least three more rounds at Foley before the player went down and fell unconscious. In another development, it is said that Mansker's childhood was marred when his father was killed by a drunk driver. Mansker is described as an officer 'who does not wear his bad lightly'. Internet blogs, and radio talk shows have criticized Mansker for trying to make a traffic stop driving an unmarked car out of uniform at 3 in the morning. Fellow officers in Coronado, as well as those he used to work with at Palomar College, have declined to speak about Mansker. The officer himself has been unavailable for comment, and he and his pregnant wife have not been seen at their homes since the incident occurred.PREP HOOPS PLAYER HOSPITALIZED AFTER SUMMER HAZING... Pennsylvania high school has suspended six students on the basketball team for an alleged hazing. The students have a five-day in-school suspension and will miss eight days of basketball practice for pranks that were said to have occurred over the summer at a basketball camp in West Virginia. According to the players, the incident was little more than simple horseplay, saying that some players had the heads shaved, mattresses flipped, and 'stuff' poured on them. However officials said one player had to be hospitalized after laxatives were put in his drink. This past week the students returned to school in plain white T-shirts that said 'INNOCENT'. PRANK LANDS WATER POLO TEAM IN HOT WATER...13 students at a San Diego high school were suspended from their teams first pre-season game after stripping down to their Speedo's during a 'jersey night' event - where students representing all fall sports are introduced to parents. School administrators confiscated the students clothes where they addressed, and required the players to sign to get the clothes back. The team's six senior players were then required to sign behavior contracts stipulating that any other school infraction would prevent them from participating in graduation ceremonies. An angry school prinicple added 'It's not 'Uniform Night'; we don't want them to come out in their bikinis or for wrestlers to come out in their singlets. Swimsuits are not appropriate for this event.' The players maintain that they don't get a lot of attention because they don't get a lot of support on their home games are off-campus (go out for football then). It's said the swimsuit stunt has been done before by varsity water polo players and that a couple of them were suspended in the past for rude, inappropriate behavior - perhaps they were flirting with going into the hazing category.ACCOMPLICE SOUGHT IN PUNTER STABBING??? Police say a second person may have been involved in the stabbing of Northern Colorado's starting punter. According to a police spokesman, 'He didn't play a role in the assault, but he played a role in the crime. He was dressed in black clothing. He was involved in the aftermath of the incident.' Not long after Monday's attack, a liquor store employee called police and said two men were removing tape from the front and rear license plates of a car in the parking lot. Once removed, the employee saw the license plate number read '8-KIKR' which led police to the family of the second-string punter, meanwhile Northern Colorado now has to go into a game with their THIRD string punter. '8-KIKR' - yeah cue the Perry Mason theme on that one. ANTHONY GONZALEZ'S TENT ON ANTI-DOPING HIT LIST??? The World Anti-Doping Agency could move to ban 'oxygen tents' when its executive board meets Saturday in Montreal. WADA Chief Dick Pound says the tents fulfill two criteria to be considered improper. First, the tents increase red blood cells for endurance, thus considered 'performance enhancing'. Also, use of the tents are considered 'against the spirit of sport' by WADA's ethics committee. Says Pound, 'It's one thing if you're prepared to go physically and endure the rigors of altitude training. To be at sea level and then climb into a tent to sleep pretending you're at altitude to get the same result as actually doing it physically is artificial.' The tents are popular with endurance athletes such as cyclists, distance runners, cross-country skiers and speedskaters. However, the International Olympic Committee has banned their use during recent Olympics. Many people first started hearing about the device just last weekend after Ohio State receiver Anthony Gonzalez caught eight passes for 142 yards in the Buckeyes win at Texas. Gonzalez (a 4.0 student) uses the device (cost $5,000) in his training, spending the hours between 9 PM and 6 AM in the hypoxic chamber constructed around his bed, where he catches up on studies and e-mails when not sleeping. The unit simulates conditions found at 8,000 feet, with the air containing 15 percent oxygen as opposed to 22 percent at sea level - a teammate notes he never gets tired in games and Gonzalez has been timed in the 40 at 4.3. Gonzalez says he plans to use the tent 'forever', which might not be long if the NCAA and NFL decide to follow WADA's potential path. If the NCAA does move to ban this Wyoming could get some monster recruiting classes. And just one other question, how would this exactly get enforced??? JUICE GETS 'OVERWHELMING RESPONSE'... Already with blood on her hands after a possibly suspicious mother in a missing child case does herself in after being raked over the coals on-air, Nancy Grace can also go into the weekend knowing that she has helped O.J. Simpson's off-shore bank account get a little fatter in the last week. Grace dedicated parts of two shows on Fred Goldman's motions to get his hands on Juice's income from various business ventures. The segments ran footage from judgeoj.com, showing Juice lap dancing with three women and showing him at a bus stop, supposedly saying that he's down to his last couple million or so. Juice is also shown in some sort of bizarre motorcade in the middle of Philadelphia, complete with a security detail that the Pope and the President can only wish for. In any event, if you were looking at plopping down $16.95 (or whatever) you're going to have to wait. Going on the judgeoj.com site this morning, it says that due to 'overwhelming response' from you humanoids out there, that the bandwidth has been exceeded and that they are going to have to move to a larger server. Yep, Juice got away with it and is taunting in everyone's faces to the bank. Take a bow Nance.DID CARL PAVANO 'CRASH' WITH MODEL... New York paper reports Yankee pitcher Carl Pavano may have had a secret passenger during his secret car crash - a sexy Queens model named Gia Allemand, who is a former Miss Italia, Miss South Beach and Miss American Teen. Pavano suffered two broken ribs in the crash, in which he didn't tell the ball club for 11 days, which made management very happy. .233... If that were a batting average, the Padres would have some use for Steve Foley in Los Angeles this weekend. Unfortunately, that turns out to his BAC. For reference it takes a 150-lb person approximately four drinks to get above .08. Factor in that Foley weighs 265 and he was at .233 - you do the math. Not quite Lary Sorenson territory but nothing you want out on the road at 3 AM. The prosecution is also suspecting that Foley could possibly been on steroids when shot three times by an off-duty police officer, noting 'His history of aggressive and even violent contact with law enforcement indicates the possibility of more than mere alcohol involvement. (Steroids) can cause erratic behavior in those that use them. This has been given names like 'roid rage' for the uncontrollable outbursts and violence experienced by some users.' Authorities have no evidence that Foley was using performance-enhancing drugs but want to test his blood because Foley has had previous run-ins with law enforcement, according to the affidavit. THINK MARYLAND MADE A MISTAKE... West Virginia back Steve Slaton, spurned by the Terps in recruiting a few years back, rushes for 149 yards and 2 TD's - IN FIRST QUARTER. YAHOO DIGS UP MORE DIRT ON REGGIE BUSH... In an article titled 'Cash and Carry', Yahoo reports that Reggie Bush and his family 'appeared' to have accepted financial benefits worth more than $100,000 from two marketing agents while Bush was playing at USC. The benefits, which could lead to USC being stripped of their National Championships and Bush being stripped of the Heisman, were supposedly supplied by two groups attempting to woo Bush as a client.THE BAND WILL NOT BE ON THE FIELD!!! Sounds like this year the infamous Stanford Band couldn't even wait for the season to start to get in hot water. The band has been on suspension since August in connection with the alleged vandalism of an on-campus trailer, and has been banned from performing at any athletic events by the university at least until the end of the month. That would include the first two home football games, including the opener at the newly renovated Stanford Stadium. The university will also bar the band from traveling for a minimum of one year, and will extend a 2004 alcohol ban -- set to expire next spring, and will require the reimbursement for full costs of the temporary trailor the band was using. According to a Stanford release, the vandalism included 'using a sledgehammer to create extensive damage to the walls. Windows were broken, equipment was destroyed, much of the ceiling was torn down and the walls were spray painted and covered with food.' Damage was estimated at $50,000. The band has had a 'colorful' history including a 1991 game v. Notre Dame which featured one band member dressing as a nun and the director using a crucifix as a baton. More recently, the band's tree mascot was fired for public drunkenness on the UC Berkely campus. UTAH ST. STARTER BOOTED OFF TEAM: Yup, it even happens in sleepy little Logan. USU senior receiver Tony Pennyman has been dismissed from the team after being charged with assault. Officers responded to a call of a dispute in progress, and found Pennyman and a woman described as the player's live-in girlfriend arguing in a parking lot. Eyewitnesses described behavior leading to Pennyman's arrest on a simple assault charge. The team dismisssed Pennyman describing him as a 'repeat offender'. It also involves the third brush of a USU gridder with the law within the last six months - just last month, redshirt freshman Taylor Wallace was charged with a felony drug distribution charge, with five teammates charged with posession. In April, former quarterback Jerod Walker pleaded not guilty to a first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault. WHY!!?? WHY!!!??? In a scene very reminiscent of Tonya Harding vs. Nancy Kerrigan, the Northern Colorado's backup punter has been arrested for allegedly stabbing the starting punter in HIS KICKING LEG - I kid you not. It is said that Mitch Cozad (#80) attacked Rafael Mendoza (#19) in a parking lot. The incident conjured up images of the rivalry between figure skaters Harding and Kerrigan. Harding was banned from skating after her former husband hired a hit man to smack Kerrigan on the knee with a crowbar. Arrested for second-degree assault, Cozad has been freed on a $30,000 bond. Cozad has also been suspended from the university and evicted from his dorm room. A phone message left for Cozad by the media at his Wyoming address was not immediately returned. Memo to Cozad, you're the #2 punter for a 1-AA team, if you can't win the job - transfer!!! Or declare for the NFL Draft and give the Packers a call. |
